Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho is making waves in Turkey. He has scored in each of his first six league matches for Bursaspor. He is now the top scorer in the division, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.
The 29-year-old has netted eight goals and provided two assists since joining the Turkish TFF First League team as a free agent this summer. His goals have helped Bursaspor rise to second place in the standings, just one point behind leaders Batman Petrolspor.
Iheanacho's latest performance was on Monday. He scored two goals in Bursaspor's 2-1 comeback win against Manisa. This brace extended his scoring streak to six consecutive matches. OptaCan noted that this is the first time in his career he has scored in six straight games.
The Nigerian has found the net against Bodrum FK, Igdir FK, Karagümrük, Kayserispor, Istanbulspor, and Manisa. He now leads the scoring charts by two goals over second-placed Rey Manaj.
His first goal against Manisa was especially skillful. He drove towards the edge of the box and fired a low shot into the bottom corner. He completed his brace in stoppage time after quickly capitalizing on a mistake by goalkeeper Vedat Karakuş.
Iheanacho joined Bursaspor after leaving Celtic, where he had a strong finish to his time in Scotland. The Turkish club signed him on a free transfer and are already seeing the benefits.
Bursaspor is aiming for promotion to the Turkish top flight. Iheanacho's goals are a significant boost for the team. His excellent start to the season might also help him earn a spot back on the Super Eagles.
