Iheanacho's Scoring Streak Reaches 11 Games

Super Eagles star Kelechi Iheanacho has made history by scoring in 11 straight Turkish league matches. This happened during Bursaspor's game against Pendikspor on Monday, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.

In the 62nd minute, Iheanacho found the net, doubling Bursaspor’s lead at the Atatürk Spor Kompleksi Matlı Stadium. Halil Akbunar had already scored in the 10th minute.

This latest goal came just four days after Iheanacho scored twice and assisted another goal in Bursaspor’s 3-0 win over Muğlaspor. He became the first player to score in 10 consecutive matches in Turkish professional league football.

The 30-year-old has broken the previous record of nine games, set by Galatasaray legend Metin Oktay in the 1962/63 season and Turkey international Saffet Sancaklı with Kocaelispor in 1995/96.

Before Monday’s match, Bursaspor coach Mustafa Er praised Iheanacho's achievement. He called the record hard to break and expressed hope that Iheanacho would keep up his great performance.

“It’s a very difficult record to break. Our wish is for him to extend this streak even further,” Er said, as quoted by Bursasporx.

“He is extremely happy, has great friendships, and is working incredibly hard.”

The coach reminded everyone that this achievement should not just be seen as Iheanacho’s alone. He emphasized that the teammates and the club’s management also played important roles.

“To judge it solely through Iheanacho would be unfair to both the team and the club. The contributions of his teammates cannot be ignored,” Er added.

“I also congratulate our management for bringing a Premier League-quality player to the team and managing his psychology correctly.”

Since joining Bursaspor from Celtic, Iheanacho has been in superb form. He has scored consistently and has become a key player in the club’s chase for promotion to the Turkish Super Lig.

His latest goal against Pendikspor highlights his importance to the team and extends a scoring run that has made him one of the top forwards in Turkish professional league football.
