Super Falcons forward Folashade Ijamilusi is really happy to have made an impact when she came off the bench in Nigeria’s 5-0 win over Comoros. She said she was determined to grab the chance to show what she can do, as reported by The PUNCH.
Ijamilusi got a late call to join the team after Asisat Oshoala got injured. She came on the field after captain Rasheedat Ajibade had to leave the match due to injury. This happened during the 2028 Olympic Games qualifier at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne.
The forward, who plays in China, thanked the coaches and team officials for the chance to play. She said she was eager to help the team perform better.
“I thank God for the opportunity. Also, to the coaches and officials for the opportunity. I was so happy when I came in,” she said.
Ijamilusi recognized Ajibade’s good performance before her exit. She mentioned that she was ready to make her own mark when she came in.
“Ajibade was doing well when she was on the pitch. When I was introduced, I took the chance to show that I can also deliver,” she added.
She went on to assist Uchenna Kanu, who scored two goals in the second half. This helped Nigeria to a 5-0 win and a 7-0 overall victory against Comoros.
Ijamilusi said she felt satisfied with her contribution, sharing that giving an assist was what she aimed for.
“The assist was a good thing for me because this is what I wanted,” she said.
With this victory, the Super Falcons move on to the third round of the African qualifiers for the 2028 Olympic Games. They will face Morocco as they aim to return to the women’s football tournament, having missed the last three editions.
