Ikoyi Club 1938 to Host 29th Nigeria Golf Championship

Ikoyi Club 1938 in Lagos will host the 29th Nigeria Cup, the oldest Independence Celebration Golf Championship in the country. The event will take place from September 19 to 27, 2026. Organisers say they are fully prepared for the tournament.

The tournament is organised by the Ikoyi Golf Community Nigeria Association and Ikoyi Club 1938. It aims to continue nearly 30 years of tradition while also aiming to improve organisation, competition, and the overall experience for everyone involved.

Olorogun Mohammed Oyibo, the Chairman of the Organising Committee, called the 2026 edition a key moment in the Championship's history. He stated that it is built on a legacy and meant for greatness. Oyibo mentioned that the committee is not just running another tournament but is building on a legacy that has inspired many golfers. He added that their duty is to create a championship that respects that history while also improving on competition, organisation, and hospitality.

They want to ensure a great experience that matches the Nigeria Cup's reputation. He called on businesses, institutions, and individuals to support the championship. The chairman also acknowledged the sponsors, members, and supporters who have kept the Nigeria Cup going for 29 editions. Organisers have also confirmed that the 2026 edition will include a Championship Watch Party and a Sunday evening Legacy Gala, two key experiences meant to extend the celebration beyond the golf course.
