INEC Names Angbazo as SDP Candidate for Nasarawa Governorship Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has named Musa Angbazo as the Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate for the 2027 Nasarawa State governorship election.

But the campaign team of former Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, claims that the retired police chief is the real SDP candidate.

INEC released the list of 15 governorship candidates on Saturday.

The other candidates include Ahmed Wadada from the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dahiru Doma of the Action Peoples Party (APP), Jonathan Gbefwi representing the Labour Party (LP), retired Major-General Nuhu Angbazo from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), and Emmanuel Ombugadu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Also listed are Ibrahim Aboh of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Christopher Mamman from the Action Democratic Party (ADP), Abdullahi Abisabo of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Abubakar Giza of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), Mohammed Suleiman from the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Abdullah Bukhari of the Action Alliance (AA), Kigbu Tanko of the Young Progressives Party (YPP), Dogo Shammah of the Nigeria Democratic Congress Party (NDC), and Shuaibu Kubi of Accord.

This situation arose after Mr Adamu moved from the APC to the SDP after he lost the governorship primary.

Abdullahi Yammani, Director-General of Mr Adamu’s campaign, told Daily Trust in Lafia that the former IGP completed his online registration with the SDP after leaving the APC.

“The ex-IGP, Mohammed Abubakar Adamu, has officially registered with the Social Democratic Party (SDP) online. He is fully in the race and ready to contest the governorship of Nasarawa State,” Mr Yammani said.

He added that Mr Adamu’s choice followed discussions with stakeholders in all 13 local government areas of the state. He noted that the former police chief plans to use his security and governance experience to tackle the challenges facing the state.

Mr Yammani also mentioned that the campaign organization has documents to back Mr Adamu’s registration and candidacy. He expressed confidence that the difference in candidates would be sorted out.

This news comes as political parties and candidates ramp up their preparations for the upcoming governorship election.
