The Independent National Electoral Commission has named 33 candidates for the three senatorial seats in Kaduna State. These elections will take place in January 2027.

The list includes notable figures like former Kaduna State Governor Mukhtar Yero, former Senator Shehu Sani, current Senator Lawal Usman, and serving Senator Sunday Katung.

The final list is signed by the Commission's Secretary, Rose Oriaran-Anthony. It was seen on Sunday and shows that 12 candidates will contest in the Kaduna North Senatorial District, 13 in Kaduna Central, and eight in Kaduna South.

These candidates come from different political parties.

In Kaduna North, Yero from the All Progressives Congress will run against the current Senator Khalid Ibrahim Mustapha of the African Democratic Congress. Yero, who has served as governor, wants to return to office via the Senate.

In Kaduna Central, former Senator Shehu Sani of the APC is set to challenge incumbent Senator Lawal Usman of the ADC. Sani has previously represented this district in the Senate, while Usman is aiming for re-election.

Also running are Bala Joji from the New Nigeria Peoples Party, Adamu Haruna of the National Democratic Congress, Ibrahim Usman from the Peoples Democratic Party, Suleiman Babangida of the Peoples Redemption Party, and Salisu Suleiman from the Social Democratic Party.

In Kaduna South, incumbent Senator Katung of the APC is looking to be re-elected. He faces competitors like Godfrey Gaiya of the ADC, Abel Solomon from the ADP, and Sa’ad Abubakar of the APM.
