Bruno Fernandes, Cody Gakpo, and Patrick Dorgu have joined the list of big-name players hurt during the current international break, according to BBC Sport on Sunday.
Manchester United captain Fernandes was left out of Portugal’s squad for Sunday’s match against Norway. He played in Thursday’s win over Wales but Portugal manager Jorge Jesus said Fernandes had an injury he carried from Manchester United. He was not at his best during the match.
Liverpool forward Gakpo had to leave the game after just 16 minutes in the Netherlands’ 2-1 victory over Serbia on Sunday. He seemed to hurt his right lower leg. Gakpo started the season well, scoring two goals and getting four assists in six games for Liverpool across all competitions.
Dorgu also picked up an injury while on international duty. He limped off after 30 minutes of Denmark’s 2-0 win over Wales.
The injuries to these players add to the worries for clubs during this long international break. This window has been extended to three weeks, with national teams playing four matches instead of the usual two.
Liverpool have also lost striker Alexander Isak. He pulled out of Sweden's squad due to a minor thigh injury after scoring in a 2-1 win over Romania.
Other players facing injuries include Arsenal forward Kai Havertz, Sunderland striker Brian Brobbey, and Northern Ireland defender Dan Ballard.
Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe and Bayern Munich midfielder Jamal Musiala have also been hurt while on international duty.
The clubs of these players will check on their conditions when they come back from international duty.
