Investigate Fadahunsi for His Comments, Says Adeleke Campaign Spokesperson

The Nigeria Police Force has been asked to look into Senator Francis Fadahunsi. They should prosecute him if it turns out that his comments during the recent Osun State governorship election are an offence.

Pelumi Olajengbesi, spokesperson for the Ademola Adeleke Governorship Campaign Council, made this statement on his Facebook page on Friday.

He is worried about the increase in threats and harsh statements from political figures as we approach the 2027 general elections.

Olajengbesi noted that this incident is part of a larger issue where political actors are allegedly threatening citizens for their political choices.

He reminded everyone that just days before the August 15 Osun State governorship election, Fadahunsi, who represents Osun East Senatorial District, was caught on video making negative remarks about members of the Accord Party. This caused a lot of public outcry.

The police called Fadahunsi in for questioning, but he was let go after a few hours without facing any charges.

Olajengbesi said political figures should win over voters by showcasing their track records and policies instead of resorting to threats.

He cautioned that if law enforcement does not respond properly to these harsh political remarks, it may lead others to use similar strategies.

"When the first threat goes without serious consequences, the next politician feels bolder. If the second one also escapes punishment, a third will follow. Soon, intimidation becomes normal in our elections," he stated.

He added that harsh language during elections must be taken seriously since it can lead to violence.

"Words can have serious effects, especially when they come from powerful political figures speaking to their passionate supporters during an election," he emphasized.

Olajengbesi called on the police to act according to the law concerning the claims against Fadahunsi.

"The Nigeria Police Force must set an example by properly investigating and prosecuting Senator Fadahunsi if the evidence shows he committed an offence," he said.

He stressed that Nigeria cannot go into the 2027 elections with political threats and intimidation becoming normal in our democracy.

He urged political parties, candidates, their supporters, and law enforcement to ensure that Nigerians can make their electoral choices freely, without facing threats or pressure.

"If we do not tackle this issue now, we risk going into the 2027 elections with political threats and intimidation as common features in our democracy," he warned.
