Investigations into the deadly train crash on the Warri-Itakpe Train Service in Delta State started on Monday. The Federal Ministry of Transportation announced this on Wednesday. They promised to find out who was injured in the accident.

The ministry and the Nigerian Railway Corporation expressed their sadness about the crash. They also sent their condolences to the families of those affected. Funsho Adebiyi, the permanent secretary of the ministry, released a statement saying, β€œThe Ministry and the NRC extend their deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and pray for the quick recovery of all those injured.”

At least five people died in the accident. This includes four adults and one infant. The train derailed on the Warri-Itakpe Train Service on Monday. Initial reports indicated that four coaches overturned during the crash.

There were 482 people on the train. This included 442 passengers, 40 crew members, security staff, and some third-party service providers.

The ministry reported that 24 people were seriously injured, while many others had different levels of injuries. These victims are currently receiving medical care.

The ministry praised the quick action from rescue teams and agencies that responded to the crash. They also highlighted support from Senator Ede Dafinone, who represents Delta Central Senatorial District, and Patrick Ukah, a former secretary to the Delta State Government.

One worker from the NRC suffered a serious limb injury. The ministry stated that this worker is getting treatment and is in stable condition.

The ministry is working hard to identify all the injured and deceased for proper records. They mentioned that they have retrieved the full list of passengers on board. This list will be available to relevant authorities upon request.

The ministry confirmed that they will provide necessary support to all those affected by the crash.
