Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo has shared why she made sure her ex-husband, Ademidun Ojo, played a major role at their daughter Priscilla Ojo’s wedding. She said she did not want her differences with him to affect their child.
Iyabo spoke on Monday during an appearance on The Morayo Show. She talked about the choice that got a lot of attention during the flashy wedding festivities.
When the host, Morayo Afolabi-Brown, asked her why she allowed her former husband to be so visible despite their breakup, Ojo said she wanted to break unhealthy family patterns.
She explained that she wanted her children to avoid the mistakes of past generations. “I don’t know, there’s something called ancestral curses. And we Africans believe in it. Christians also. I believe that if you do not want something to continue, you have to be able to break it.
“I made up my mind that whatever situation had happened, because my dad and my mum were also not together, every mistake they had made that I have made, my children will not make it.
“So I had to put aside what I felt, my differences, and play my part. That’s why I said I have paid the price for her to succeed and for her to be happy in her marriage,” she said.
Ojo also mentioned that Priscilla’s father deserved to be part of such a significant moment. “Her father is not dead. He’s alive. So why can’t he be there? He didn’t wrong her. Me and him fell out. It has nothing to do with her.
“I made the choice to marry him. So whatever is going on between me and him is between me and him. It shouldn’t extend to my children,” she added.
The actress responded to the idea that she is a strict mother. She admitted that she used to be firm with her kids, but they eventually understood her reasons.
Priscilla Ojo married Tanzanian singer Juma Jux in a series of grand wedding events held in Tanzania and Nigeria in 2025. The celebrations drew many celebrities and dignitaries and became one of the most talked-about weddings of the year.
