A Jay-Z concert at Yankee Stadium in New York got delayed for over four hours on Sunday night. This happened after many fans without tickets tried to get in, according to the organizers.
A representative from Live Nation said, “Hundreds of individuals in large groups, who did not have tickets to tonight’s performance, stormed over peaceful ticket holders, and in some cases, breached security.”
They added that “Gates at all entrances of the Stadium were closed for an extended period of time” before they were “reopened cautiously and carefully to ensure the safety of those inside and outside.”
The concert was supposed to start at 8:00 pm (0000 GMT). But many people with valid tickets were still outside the stadium, as an AFP reporter noticed.
Ticket holders were finally allowed in little by little. Jay-Z took the stage around 12:15 am (0415 GMT Monday).
Before starting the show, the American rapper explained the situation to the more than 40,000 fans gathered in the stadium.
This concert was the last of three shows by the 56-year-old artist. He had not performed a major solo concert since 2017.
