The Fulani Community in Jigawa State has thrown its weight behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Umar Namadi, and all candidates running for office under the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 elections.
This endorsement came during a community gathering led by Shehu Hadejia at the Manpower Development Institute in Dutse. The event aimed to thank the Jigawa State Government for its efforts in promoting peace between farmers and herders and improving livestock development in the state.
Shehu Hadejia, the community leader, spoke at the event. He said the gathering was to recognize the government's role in maintaining good relations between farming and herding communities. He also highlighted the establishment of the Ministry of Livestock Development.
He praised the government for introducing initiatives through the ministry. These include the gazetting of grazing reserves, animal vaccination programs, and other efforts to boost livestock production and meet herders' needs.
Governor Namadi also spoke at the gathering. He called the event significant, noting that Fulani community members had traveled from various parts of the state to show appreciation to the government and support the president, the governor, and APC candidates.
"Today is also another important day for us. Today, the entire Fulani community in Jigawa State is here," he said.
He also mentioned that the gathering showed the community's stance on the political landscape ahead of the 2027 elections. "You can see the number of people who came from all over the state. And they were here to endorse Mr. President, the Governor, and all the APC candidates in Jigawa State."
The governor reiterated his administration's commitment to tackling challenges faced by livestock owners. He spoke about providing grazing areas, watering stations, and cultivating alfalfa to feed animals.
"We have provided watering stations in every location. We are also working to grow alfalfa so that there will be sufficient food for the animals."
He added, "We are ready to provide feed. We are ready to provide water, hospitals, schools, and everything else for them."
Governor Namadi also revealed that the state has invested around ₦3.1 billion in artificial insemination over the last two to three years. This investment aims to improve cattle breeds and boost milk production. Regular animal vaccination is also being done to protect livestock health.
He stressed that peaceful coexistence between farmers and herders is vital for maintaining the peace and stability in Jigawa State. He urged communities to work with the government and security agencies to report anyone whose actions could disturb public peace.
Professor Salim Mohammed, the Commissioner for Livestock Development, also spoke. He highlighted the programs and achievements of the ministry since its formation.
He mentioned the demarcation of more grazing reserves, animal vaccination programs, and campaigns to promote peaceful coexistence between farmers and herders as key interventions of the ministry.
