The Jigawa State Government has praised President Bola Tinubu for sending more relief materials and economic support to victims of the 2025 floods in the state.
The State Commissioner for Special Duties, Auwal Sankara, said this while talking to journalists during the launch of the distribution on Friday.
He called the federal support a clear sign of President Tinubu’s care for the people of Jigawa State and all Nigerians. He pointed out that it shows the government’s strong commitment to the welfare of citizens.
Mr Sankara remembered how the state government acted fast when the floods happened. Through the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), they quickly distributed emergency relief items within days.
He said the initial support from the state government reached hundreds of households. This included over 11,000 bags of rice, beans, and maize, as well as cash support and other necessary supplies.
“We also gave out agricultural inputs, especially improved seed types, to help farmers replant, get extra harvests, and boost local food security,” the commissioner stated.
Sankara mentioned that the Federal Government’s Special Intervention for Post-2025 Flood Disaster Relief Assistance aims to ease the ongoing social and economic effects of the flood on vulnerable communities.
He explained that President Tinubu told the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to provide more food and non-food items, along with tools for livelihood support.
“The items given to about 700 households included 500 bags of rice, 250 cartons of spaghetti, 250 cartons of vegetable oil, 500 foam mattresses, 250 nylon mats, and 250 blankets,” Mr Sankara explained.
“For economic recovery, beneficiaries also got 54 water pumping machines, 48 grinding machines, 40 sewing machines, and 10 cargo tricycles.”
He added that NEMA officials worked with SEMA, the Nigerian Red Cross Society, anti-corruption agencies like EFCC and ICPC, and security agencies such as the SSS, Nigeria Police Force, and NSCDC to carry out this exercise.
