A 20-year-old man named Lawisi Safiyanu has been taken into custody by the Jigawa State Police for allegedly stabbing a customer to death over a N500 balance from a mobile phone sale.

Reports say the incident happened around 12:30am on October 1, 2026, in Chamo village, within the Dutse Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

According to a statement from the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Lawan Adam, the man who died is 25-year-old Muhammad Abba. He had bought a mobile handset from Safiyanu for N1,500.

The police explained that Abba paid N1,000 but could not pay the remaining N500 right away, which led to a fight between them.

"During the fight, the suspect allegedly used a knife to stab him," the statement noted.

Abba was quickly taken to Rashid Shekoni Teaching Hospital in Dutse for treatment but sadly passed away while receiving care.

The police said that after the incident, they arrested Safiyanu and recovered the knife used as evidence.

"The case has been investigated, and the suspect has been charged to court to face the full weight of the law," the police added.
