Jimoh wins Lekki Scrabble Classics again

Abdulmumeen Jimoh has kept his Division A title at the Lekki Scrabble Club Classics. He topped the 2026 tournament held in Lagos.

Jimoh also won this competition last year. He claimed the title on Sunday, making it back-to-back wins.

This victory brought him a trophy and a cash prize of $1,000.

Reflecting on his games, Jimoh said he did not put pressure on himself during the competition.
“I played each game as it came. I didn’t give myself the pressure,” he said.

Now, Jimoh is focusing on preparing for the African Scrabble Championship in Monrovia, Liberia, which is in October.
“I have to start preparation and make sure I tighten all the loose ends from this tournament,” he added.

He also dedicated his win to his late elder brother, who first introduced him to Scrabble.
“This win means a lot to me,” Jimoh said.

The tournament had over 200 players competing in different categories. Divisions A and B had the senior players battling it out.

Frank Ishiekwene won Division B, while Abdulsalam Toyyibaht took the Under-12 category.

There was also a children’s category as the organizers worked to grow Scrabble among young players.

The Lekki Scrabble Club Classics is now a key event in the Nigerian Scrabble scene. It gives players a chance to compete before big national and international tournaments.

Jimoh’s win gives him good momentum before the African championship. There, he will face some of the best players from across the continent.
