Kaduna State Police have arrested a newly married woman accused of killing her co-wife. The woman allegedly stabbed her during a fight over a child in Zaria.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, confirmed the arrest of the suspect, Amina Maharazu. She lives in the Madachi B area of Gwargwaje, Zaria.

After a report from a community leader, police officers went to the scene. They found the victim lying in a pool of blood with serious stomach injuries.

The victim was taken to the hospital but sadly died there. Amina is now in custody at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation. She will be charged with culpable homicide.

The police spokesman said the Commissioner of Police praised the officers in the Dan Magaji area for their quick and professional response to the incident.

Salisu Haruna, the husband of both women, spoke to our correspondent. He is a petrol trader in Gwargwaje. He shared that the deceased played a big role in arranging his marriage to Amina.

"The incident is particularly painful because it was the deceased who facilitated my marriage to the woman who eventually became the cause of her death," he said.

Haruna explained that Amina is originally from Kano and was brought to the area by her mother. "She and her mother were tenants here. By the will of God, I married her, not knowing she would become the cause of the death of the mother of my children," he added.

Haruna accused Amina of being overly suspicious. This was part of what led to the tragic event. "Once her child cries, she will suspect that somebody, especially from the senior wife’s room, beat him, and she will react furiously," he explained.

Sources told our reporter that the fight began over sharing Sallah meat. Amina allegedly accused the senior wife’s children of getting a bigger share than her own.

The sources also said that Amina has a history of getting involved in arguments over small issues, especially those involving children. The deceased was known for being patient and having good relationships in the community.

Our reporter found out that the deceased had been married to her husband for many years. They have eight children and grandchildren.
