Police arrest woman for allegedly killing her co-wife in Bauchi

The Bauchi State Police has arrested a 33-year-old woman, Hauwa’u Haruna, for allegedly killing her co-wife, Jamila Adamu. This incident happened during a domestic dispute at the Tafawa Balewa Housing Estate in Bauchi.

The police spokesperson, Nafiu Habib, shared this news in a statement on Monday.

Habib explained that the incident took place on September 27, 2026, around 4:05 PM. This was when the C-Division in Bauchi got information about a domestic issue between the two women.

He said initial investigations showed that Hauwa’u, the second wife, took a pestle and hit 43-year-old Jamila on the forehead. This blow caused Jamila to fall unconscious.

The statement noted, "Preliminary investigation revealed that the second wife, one Hauwa’u Haruna, 33 years old, allegedly acting under hallucinations, armed herself with a pestle and struck the first wife, one Jamila Adamu, 43 years old, on the forehead. Consequently, the victim fell unconscious."

After receiving the report, detectives from the C-Division quickly went to the scene.

Habib added, "The scene was documented, and the victim was rushed to the Specialist Hospital, Bauchi, where she was certified dead by a medical doctor. Her corpse has been deposited at the hospital mortuary for autopsy."

According to Habib, the police arrested the suspect and recovered the pestle used in the alleged attack as evidence.

He mentioned that the Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, ordered the case to be moved to the State Criminal Investigation Department. This is for a thorough investigation and prosecution.

"The CP condoles with the bereaved family and warns the public against domestic violence. He also urged families to seek timely medical and psycho-social support for members showing mental health issues," the statement concluded.
