Kane believes England can match Spain

Harry Kane says England are almost at the same level as Spain, even after losing to them in the Nations League.

Spain bounced back from an early goal by Lamine Yamal. They were trailing at halftime, with Anthony Gordon and Kane scoring for England at Wembley on Saturday.

Kane, who is the England captain, had a chance to make it 3-1. He took a penalty but slipped, and the ball hit the crossbar.

Spain showed their skill and came back to win 3-2. Alex Baena equalized, and Mikel Oyarzabal scored the winning goal.

Kane believes England showed enough to prove they can compete with the World Cup and European Championship winners. "I think we’re close, without a doubt," he said. "I think anyone who watched that game will see that."

He added, "They have the trophies to back it up, so until we do that, we can only use words. We have to show it on the pitch."

England lost to Spain in the Euro 2024 final. They also missed a chance to face Spain again at the World Cup after losing to Argentina in the semi-finals.

Kane is confident that England's performance on Saturday made a statement to the world champions. "We showed a lot of good things on the pitch, but in the big moments, we didn’t quite have it," the Bayern Munich striker said.

"But we’re top four in the world. We finished third in the World Cup, so without a doubt, we’re close, and I think they would have felt that out there today for sure."
