Harry Kane celebrated his 100th Bundesliga match with a goal as Bayern Munich crushed RB Leipzig 6-1 on Saturday. This win sent Bayern to the top of the league table.
Bayern came into this game after some disappointing draws. They had drawn with Augsburg in the Bundesliga and with Viking from Norway in the Champions League. This had raised worries about their defense. But the defending champions bounced back strong, showing their attacking power and energy against Leipzig.
Díaz started the scoring in the 12th minute. He ran onto a clever pass from Joshua Kimmich and finished well past goalkeeper Maarten Vandevoordt. Díaz then assisted Pavlović, who scored at the near post to make it 2-0. Olise added a third goal before half-time. He exchanged passes with Kane and drilled a low shot into the bottom corner, putting Leipzig in a tough spot.
Bayern kept up their pressure after half-time. Díaz scored his second goal just 95 seconds into the second half. Kane then marked his special match by tapping in Nathaniel Brown’s cut-back, scoring his 102nd Bundesliga goal and extending Bayern's lead to five. Díaz completed his hat-trick with 20 minutes to go, hitting a powerful right-footed shot from the edge of the penalty area into the bottom corner.
Leipzig got a late goal from Andrija Maksimović. He finished well into the top corner during stoppage time. Bayern’s attacking strength showed in the stats. They had 17 shots on target before Leipzig got their first in the 78th minute. Vandevoordt made 11 saves, stopping an even bigger loss.
This victory put Bayern at the top of the Bundesliga with 14 points. They moved ahead after Borussia Dortmund's goalless draw with Union Berlin earlier that day. But Bayern’s lead could change on Sunday if Freiburg beats Bayer Leverkusen, which would put them two points clear. Kompany’s team will now focus on the UEFA Champions League. They are set to face Arsenal at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday, October 21. Leipzig's uneven start to the season continues, leaving them in seventh place after winning three home games and losing three away.
