The Kano State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has said that its members in Kumbotso Local Government Area are united and loyal to the party. They dismissed claims that some members had moved to the National Democratic Congress.

The party called the alleged defections a lie from the Kwankwasiyya movement. They said this is an attempt to distract from what they described as its “sinking ship.”

In a statement on Wednesday, Auwalu Soja, the state Publicity Secretary, said the party is strong in Kumbotso. He added that those said to have defected are not known to the party's leaders in the area.

“Soja said, “The party stakeholders and loyalists in Kumbotso are satisfied with the infrastructural projects being executed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. This includes the AKK gas pipeline and the Kaduna, Kano, Maradi standard gauge railway. Both projects pass through parts of the local government.”

Soja also mentioned that APC members in Kumbotso appreciate Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for bringing in major investments to the area. These investments aim to boost economic growth and create jobs for the youth.

He told the Kwankwasiyya movement to focus on fixing its own problems instead of spreading what he called baseless rumors.

“The average Kano voter can no longer trust their future to the political tricks and selfish interests of the Kwankwasiyya movement,” he said. He went on to say that the NDC was formed mainly to serve the narrow interests of its leaders.

The APC asked residents to ignore reports on social media that claim its members had moved to the NDC. They insisted that the party remains strong, united, and firmly established in Kumbotso.

This response came after social media reports suggested that some APC members in Kumbotso Local Government Area had joined the NDC.

Dr Habibu Sale Mohammed, the spokesperson for the Kwankwasiyya movement, rejected the APC’s claims. He insisted that defections from the ruling party to the NDC are happening all over the state.

“The APC leadership in the state has refused to accept reality. The defection of APC members to the NDC in the state is a daily occurrence,” he said.

“Pictures don’t lie. The recent defection of APC members to the NDC in Kumbotso and other local government areas is true because the pictures do not lie,” Mohammed added.
