Kano APC Welcomes Over 136,000 New Members

The All Progressives Congress in Kano State has welcomed over 136,000 new members from different political parties. This includes former elected officials, party leaders, and other political figures as the 2027 general elections approach.

The new members showed their support for President Bola Tinubu and Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf during the launch of the Tinubu Support Group at Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano. They promised to rally support for the APC and work hard for the party's success in 2027.

Yusuf called the mass defection a strong sign that the APC is gaining acceptance in Kano State. He believes this will help the party as it gets ready for the 2027 elections.

"The mass defection is a strong indication of the growing acceptance of the APC in Kano State," Yusuf said.

The governor praised the new members for choosing to join the APC. He asked them to stay dedicated to the development, peace, and progress of Kano State and Nigeria.

He assured the defectors that his administration would collaborate with stakeholders to promote unity, stability, and lasting development in the state.

"The collective interest of the people must remain the priority," Yusuf said. He highlighted the need for unity and cooperation as the APC expands its political base in Kano.

Yusuf also encouraged the new members to work with other APC stakeholders to build unity, peace, and stability within the party. He urged current APC members and supporters to welcome the newcomers, saying their involvement would strengthen the party at the grassroots level.

The defectors promised to support Tinubu and Yusuf, vowing to work hard to ensure the APC's success in the 2027 elections. They said their decision to join the party came from their trust in Tinubu's and Yusuf's leadership and their dedication to Kano State's growth.

Some notable politicians who joined the APC include Senator Rufai Sani Hanga, former Kano State Governor and Senator Kabiru Ibrahim Gaya, former PDP Deputy Governorship Candidate Yusuf Bello Dambatta, and former NDC Deputy Chairman Aliyu Datti Yako. Others are former Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Isyaku Ali Danja and Senator Mas’ud El-Jibrin Doguwa.

More names include former Kano State NNPP Chairman Abdullahi Zubairu Imam Abiya, former NNPP Senatorial Candidate Senator Abdulmajid Dauda Dandawaki, former Commissioner and Special Adviser Senator Baraka Sani, and former Ungogo Local Government Chairman Muhammad Badaru Umar, along with several former NDC and PDP leaders.

The list also features former NDC Kano State Woman Leader Amina Sirajo, former NDC Assistant Woman Leader Hauwa’u Turaki, former NDC Chairman of Gezawa Gambo Hamza, former NDC Chairman of Kura Handanu Umar, and former NDC Director-General Saminu Shehu Kura.

Others named include former NDC Youth Leader Danladi Musa Garko, former NDC Auditor Sahabi Garba, former Gwale Local Government Chairman Sani Jibrin Dan Zara, former Makoda Local Government Chairman Hassan Abba Makoda, and other key political figures.

The APC leadership welcomed the new members, calling their decision to join the party a big boost for efforts to strengthen political unity and grow grassroots support in Kano State. The party urged its members and supporters to stay united and accept the newcomers as they prepare for the 2027 elections.

The new members are set to join the APC's campaign for Tinubu’s re-election as president and Yusuf’s second term as Kano governor. This shift comes amidst ongoing political changes in Kano, following Yusuf’s switch from the New Nigeria People’s Party to the APC in early 2026.

Yusuf asked the new members to stay committed and actively engage in the APC’s programs and activities as the party gears up for the 2027 elections.
