Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has urged the people to stay away from actions that could disrupt the peace and stability of the state as the 2027 general elections get closer.

Yusuf spoke during the 66th National Independence Anniversary at the Sani Abacha Indoor Stadium on Thursday.

He asked residents to keep embracing peace, unity, and respect for one another to boost the economic growth of the state.

He said, “As the 2027 General Election is fast approaching, I also appeal to you all to continue to uphold peace, unity, and mutual respect. Let us shun violence and anything that may threaten the peace and stability of our dear state.”

The governor also called on the citizens and all Nigerians to pray for a peaceful, fair, and credible election in the country.

“I must also seize this opportunity to appreciate all our security agencies for their tireless efforts in maintaining peace and protecting the lives and property of our people at all times. I urge our people to reject violence, division, intolerance, and criminality, and to embrace peace, lawful enterprise, and responsible citizenship,” he added.

He assured that his administration is dedicated to building on the progress made in education, healthcare, agriculture, infrastructure, water supply, security, and human capital development.

“Our administration remains committed to consolidating the gains we have made in education, healthcare, agriculture, infrastructure, water supply, security, and human capital development.

“We shall continue to work with the Federal Government, Local Governments, traditional and religious institutions, the private sector, and development partners in the service of our people,” he said.

“As we mark this 66th Independence Anniversary, let us renew our faith in Nigeria, uphold peace and unity, and contribute our share towards building a stronger, more prosperous, and peaceful nation.”

The governor reaffirmed his administration's commitment to work closely with all security agencies in the State. He promised to provide more logistics and operational support to the Military, Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, and DSS in vulnerable and frontline communities.

“We have also sustained grassroots security coordination and increased attention to local government areas including Tsanyawa, Ghari, Gwarzo, Shanono, Bagwai, Rogo, Kiru/Bebeji, Karaye, Tudun Wada/Doguwa, and other communities facing security challenges. Our goal is to protect lives, restore confidence, and enable residents to return to their farms and normal economic activities.”

He mentioned that the state government is taking strong actions against the rising issue of drug abuse and trafficking. The formation of the Kano State Multi-Agency Task Force on Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking and the Executive Order to tackle these issues are already producing positive results.

He also stated that the state government has given start-up capital, livestock, skills training, and other support to thousands of beneficiaries across the state to help vulnerable families.

He expressed gratitude for the Federal Government’s support for essential infrastructure, security, and other development projects in the state.
