Kano musician Jamilu Garko has turned down his appointment as assistant director in the entertainment section of Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s campaign council. He said he was not asked before his name was put on the list.

Garko, who leads the Da Hannuna campaign team in the Arewa for Asiwaju group, shared this in a statement on Monday night.

He stated that he would not take part in the council's activities until he is properly consulted about the appointment.

He mentioned that if the governor's team had reached out to him before the announcement, he would have suggested someone else for the position instead of accepting it himself.

Garko’s name was listed as number 169 among the members of the governor’s campaign council under the entertainment section.

While he thanked Yusuf for considering him for the appointment, Garko said he would continue to support the All Progressives Congress and work for its success in the 2027 general elections.

"I appreciate Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for finding me worthy of the appointment. However, I was not consulted before my name was included in the list, and I will not accept the appointment until consulted," he said.

He added, "I will continue to work hard for the success of the APC, but I will not participate in Governor Yusuf’s campaign council."

Garko is a well-known entertainer in Northern Nigeria. He uses music to connect with politicians and election campaigns.

As the chairman of the Da Hannuna campaign team in the Arewa for Asiwaju group, he has been working to gather support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.

He reaffirmed his dedication to the APC and the Arewa for Asiwaju group as the 2027 general elections approach.
