The Katsina State Police Command arrested 247 suspects and rescued 17 kidnapped victims during operations in August 2026.
The Command also seized an AK-47 rifle, 145 suspected stolen livestock, six motorcycles, a car, and 1,500 pieces of Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food, known as "Yar Kwamaso", among other items.
DSP Abubakar Sadiq, the Police Public Relations Officer, shared this information on Friday at a press conference at the Command Headquarters in Katsina. He presented the Command's achievements for the month.
Speaking for the Commissioner of Police, CP Ali Umar Fage, the PPRO said the Command boosted intelligence-led operations, worked with other agencies, and maintained patrols to deal with kidnapping, banditry, cattle rustling, arms trafficking, and other crimes.
He said, "During this time, the Command stepped up its fight against all forms of crime, especially kidnapping, banditry, cattle rustling, and arms trafficking through intelligence-led operations, inter-agency collaboration, and patrols in hotspot areas."
According to him, the 247 suspects included three suspected kidnappers, 15 suspected armed robbers, four suspected informants for armed bandits, 31 suspected drug dealers, and 13 suspects linked to murder or culpable homicide.
He added that 20 suspects were arrested for rape and sodomy, while 160 others were caught for different criminal activities.
DSP Sadiq mentioned that 122 major criminal cases were reported and addressed during the month. He noted that 89 cases had already been charged to court for prosecution after investigations were completed.
He also revealed that the Command's operatives successfully rescued 17 kidnapped victims.
"The victims have been debriefed, medically checked, and reunited with their families," he stated.
The PPRO explained that the recovered items included a sewing machine, recharge cards, 90 pieces of Exol-5 tablets, 141 Tramadol capsules, a bottle of blue spirit, and some vandalized wires.
He mentioned that all recovered items are in police custody and will be used as evidence in court.
He added that the Command continued community-policing efforts to build trust between security agencies and residents. This aims to improve the flow of useful information.
"To limit criminals' actions, the Command kept up intelligence-led operations. Community-policing efforts were also maintained to build local trust and share information," Sadiq said.
He credited the successes of the month to ongoing collaboration with other security agencies, especially through joint operations, patrols, and real-time information sharing.
He emphasized that this teamwork has "greatly improved our response time and operational effectiveness across Katsina State."
The PPRO acknowledged that more work is needed to tackle insecurity in the state.
"While we celebrate these achievements, the Command knows that more needs to be done, and we are not resting on our success," he said.
He thanked the Katsina State Government, led by Governor Dikko Umaru Radda, and the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, for their support.
The PPRO also urged residents to stay alert and share timely and useful information with the police through the Command's hotlines.
He warned criminals to stop their illegal activities, stressing that the police will keep working to protect lives and property in the state.
