Katsina United defeated Enyimba 4-2 at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium on Friday. This victory pushed Katsina United to sixth place in the Nigeria Premier Football League table. The match also marked the return of Friday night football in the NPFL, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.
The home team took the lead in the sixth minute. An error from Enyimba defender Emeka and goalkeeper Dede Dare led to an own goal. Six minutes later, Mubarak Sani doubled Katsina United’s lead, giving them a strong start.
Luis Dadong added to the Chanji Boys’ lead with a goal in the 58th minute. This left Enyimba with a three-goal gap to close.
Enyimba fought back with two goals, making the match competitive. But Katsina United regained their advantage in the 80th minute. Umar Rabi’u then scored to confirm the 4-2 win.
This result gives Katsina United 12 points from eight matches. Enyimba is in 17th place with seven points from the same number of games.
The loss ended Enyimba’s three-match unbeaten run. This run included wins against Plateau United and Shooting Stars, along with a goalless draw against Kano Pillars. Before this, the Aba-based team had lost their first four league matches.
Before the game, Enyimba’s assistant coach Lawrence Ukaegbu showed confidence in his players. He praised their response and the support from the club’s fans for their improved results.
The win also continued Katsina United’s strong home record against the nine-time Nigerian champions. The Chanji Boys have not lost to Enyimba at home since 2018.
Katsina United's next match is against Kano Pillars on October 18 as they aim to build on this win.
