Manchester United defender Lisandro Martínez is facing backlash from former club captain Roy Keane. This comes after Martínez made public comments about the club’s management during their tough times.

After United lost 2-0 to Atlético Madrid in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday, Martínez questioned the team’s recruitment strategy. This loss marked their fifth game without a win.

The Argentine defender showed disappointment over the club not strengthening the squad properly after qualifying for the Champions League. He urged for more investment and called on technical director Jason Wilcox to do better.

On _The Overlap_ podcast on Thursday, Keane described what is happening at Old Trafford as chaotic. He compared the club to a circus.

“I think as a reflection of the club, it’s obviously chaos there, like a bit of a circus,” Keane said.

But Keane also criticized Martínez for speaking out while the team is struggling. He believes players should first look at their own performances before making public comments.

“When you’re going through a difficult spell like United are, the issue I have with certain players saying things is you always have to start with the man in the mirror before you start coming out with all these comments,” he added.

Martínez later took to social media to explain that his comments came from “anger and frustration.”

Keane also questioned whether Martínez is a strong leader in the United dressing room. He thinks the defender hasn’t proven himself as a senior player in the team.

“I don’t think there’s enough characters, enough men in there, but I don’t see him as a senior player at Manchester United. I see him as a centre-half who’s making lots of mistakes,” Keane said.

Gary Neville, another former United defender, also criticized Martínez’s comments. He believes they could cause tension among the players.

Neville pointed out that Martínez’s remarks could be seen as a direct criticism of teammates like captain Bruno Fernandes and Harry Maguire.

“If I were Harry Maguire or Bruno Fernandes, or any other senior player, I would be absolutely fuming with him because you’re basically saying we shouldn’t be here and we should be bringing more players in,” Neville said.

Martínez, who is 28, is nearing the end of his contract, which runs out at the season’s end. However, United has the option to extend it for another year.

The team will look to improve their performance when they face Leeds United in the Premier League on Sunday. The pressure is increasing as questions arise about the club’s recruitment, leadership, and overall performance.
