The Kogi State Police Command has warned people to stop sharing unverified information.
This warning comes as the 2027 general election gets closer. It aims to prevent misunderstandings between security agencies.
On Friday, the command's spokesperson, ASP Salisu Oyiza Afusat, released a statement to correct the false impression about a video from the 2023 governorship election.
“The command has taken note of a video currently circulating on social media, captioned ‘Police Don Buy Soja Job,’ and wishes to clarify that the footage relates to an incident during the 2023 Kogi State Governorship Election, not a recent occurrence.
The video shows police officers who were with the former Deputy Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Ahmed Ahmed. They went to his hometown, Abache, to vote.
Military personnel on election duty arrested the officers for not following the movement restrictions in place at that time. They were taken into custody, and the case was handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further action.
The spokesperson said it is important to set the record straight about the misleading impression from this old video.
The PPRO added, “It is pertinent to emphasise that the command currently enjoys an enviable level of mutual respect and operational cooperation with the military and other sister security agencies in Kogi State.
This partnership is key to ongoing security operations and efforts to ensure peace and safety for everyone.
“Recycling old footage that can create distrust or show conflict among security agencies is not helpful. It risks damaging the cooperation built over time.”
She urged the public and social media users to check the truth and context of information before sharing it. She also asked them to stop using old videos to mislead others or push propaganda.
“The Kogi State Police Command remains committed to professionalism, accountability and sustained collaboration with all sister security agencies in the protection of lives and property,” she added.
