The Kogi state police command has trained five hundred and sixty-five (565) Constables on weapon handling and shooting skills.
During the Passing-Out Parade on Monday at the police command's headquarters in Lokoja, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi spoke about the training. He said this effort aims to improve how police operate, act professionally, and serve the public better.
The state Police Chief noted that the training started on 13th April 2026 and lasted for two months. This was part of the plans and goals set by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu.
"The Kogi State Police Command is dedicated to building the skills of its officers through regular training sessions, following the Inspector-General of Police's goal for a professional, service-driven, and friendly Police Force," he said.
He explained that the training is meant to boost the skills of police officers to tackle modern security issues and enhance public safety.
"The programme was designed to give the officers the right knowledge and practical skills in safely handling, maintaining, and using firearms. It also aimed to teach professionalism, accountability, and respect for human rights," he added.
CP Kankarofi also mentioned that the Nigeria Police Force needs to keep taking advantage of the energy and potential of its young officers through ongoing training. This will help create a more effective and responsive police system.
He praised the participants for their hard work, discipline, and commitment during the training. He urged the graduating Constables to stay disciplined and use what they learned wisely.
He stressed that the firearms given to officers are for protecting lives and property, and they must handle them with great care and professionalism.
Finally, he thanked the Inspector-General of Police for his strong support for officer development and operational success. He also appreciated the instructors and facilitators for their hard work in making the training a success.
