The Kogi State Government has promised to bring justice to the bandits who attacked the Iluke community in the Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area. Three residents were killed in this attack.

Kingsley Fanwo, the Commissioner for Information and Communications, made this promise in a statement on Wednesday in Lokoja.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, Fanwo said the government was deeply saddened by the reports of the attack. He also extended condolences to the families of the victims, the Iluke community, and the entire Bunu District.

Fanwo explained that the attackers wore military uniforms when they invaded the community. They disrupted an ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination.

He reported that the bandits began to march students into the bush. Thankfully, security operatives engaged them in a fierce gun battle.

The commissioner praised the quick response and bravery of military personnel, local vigilantes, hunters, and other security forces. Their actions helped prevent a mass abduction and further casualties.

"Thanks to the superior firepower, professionalism, and courage of the security agents, all the students were successfully rescued unharmed and returned to safety," he said.

During the operation, security forces killed one of the bandits. Several others escaped with serious gunshot wounds, he noted.

Fanwo revealed that security agencies had started a manhunt for the fleeing suspects. They are working hard to catch everyone involved in the attack.

He expressed gratitude to the military and local security teams for their bravery, which saved innocent lives and prevented what could have been a terrible mass abduction.

The commissioner said the government is closely watching the situation in the affected community. They are also working with security agencies to improve security in the area.

He mentioned that more security measures will be announced to protect lives and property.

Fanwo urged residents to stay calm and alert. He encouraged them to work with security agencies by providing timely and useful information to assist ongoing operations.

"Let it be clearly stated that Kogi State will not submit to terror.

"Criminals trying to disturb the peace and security of our state will face a strong and coordinated response from security agencies and the government," he added.

Fanwo also shared his sympathy with the families of the deceased and prayed for the souls of those who lost their lives.
