Veteran actors Jide Kosoko and Yinka Quadri have shared why their sick colleague, Taiwo “Ogogo” Hassan, cannot be moved from his current hospital. This is despite the many offers of medical help he has received.
PREMIUM TIMES reported earlier that Ogogo's daughters, Kira and Haleemah, revealed that doctors diagnosed their father with stage-four cancer. They appealed to Nigerians to help explore medical options, including traditional treatment, after the hospital was said to have refused to treat him.
After this appeal, many Nigerians, especially in the comments under his daughters' social media posts, offered to help with his treatment. Some suggested traditionalist homes and hospitals that they believed could assist him.
In response to these offers, Kosoko and Quadri posted a statement on their Instagram pages on Wednesday. They thanked everyone who reached out to help Ogogo. The actors also asked those offering spiritual, medical, or traditional treatment not to feel bad if the family cannot move Ogogo to their facilities.
They explained that his current medical condition makes it hard to transfer him from the hospital where he is getting care. They said, "We particularly appreciate those who have reached out to say they have spiritual assistance, treatment, or other means they believe could help him. We have received hundreds of such offers, and we sincerely appreciate every single one. However, we humbly appeal to everyone not to stop praying for Ogogo."
They continued, "We have received offers from more than 300, and even over 500 people, each sincerely believing that they have something that could help him. The challenge is: where do we take him? And how do we move him from the hospital while he is receiving care? Please understand that our inability to bring him to anyone does not mean that we do not appreciate you, nor does it mean that we doubt your intentions or your desire to help."
The actors also thanked everyone for their love and concern for Ogogo. Kosoko and Quadri mentioned that they had received many messages, prayers, and words of encouragement. They urged Ogogo’s fans and others who care about him to keep praying for the actor.
"Please, continue to pray with us. We believe strongly that, with your prayers, our prayers, and the mercy of Almighty God, Taye will come out of this situation. There is nothing impossible before Almighty God. We also want to clarify something very important. Please, do not feel offended or disappointed if we are unable to bring Ogogo to you for spiritual assistance or treatment."
They added, "It is extremely difficult to move him from the hospital to different locations at this stage of his treatment, especially considering the large number of people who have offered to help."
This newspaper reported that Ogogo’s colleagues have come together to support him after his daughters revealed that he is fighting stage-four cancer and cannot travel abroad for treatment. The actors asked Nigerians to help the family find medical specialists and hospitals that can treat him. They noted that Ogogo does not need financial help.
They said the actor’s condition requires specialised treatment and urged anyone who knows a qualified specialist or suitable medical facility to contact his family. Ogogo’s daughters mentioned that they cannot bear the thought of losing him and need to secure the right treatment quickly.
His daughters stated that doctors diagnosed Ogogo with cancer about three weeks ago, and he remains determined to survive. They added that the actor has often expressed his desire to live.
