Kwankwaso tells Atiku to step back from 2027 race

Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, who is the Vice-Presidential Candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress, has asked former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar to withdraw from the 2027 presidential race. Kwankwaso made this request during a visit from members of the Fulani Farmers Association at his home in Abuja.

He suggested that Atiku should concentrate on his traditional roles instead of pursuing the presidency. Kwankwaso pointed out Atiku's age and health as reasons for his appeal. He urged Atiku's supporters to persuade him to step aside from the race.

Kwankwaso stated, "Go to the Wazirin of Adamawa’s house and tell him in Fulani that he needs to focus on his traditional title of Wazirin, given his age and health.

"If Allah grants us success, we will take good care of him, especially since you all come from Adamawa. An apology should be offered to him," he added.

In April, Atiku mentioned that the 2027 presidential election might be his last attempt due to his age and the importance of the election. He has run for the presidency several times, including in 2007, 2011, 2019, and 2023, but he has not won any of those contests.

Atiku remains a strong supporter of restructuring the country, economic liberalisation, and promoting growth led by the private sector.
