The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Kwara State has arrested two men for allegedly vandalizing transformer cables and other crimes in Tanke-Iledu community, Ilorin.

The suspects are Nurah Abdullahi, 20, known as Hartabo, and Sherif Abdullahi, 23. They were arrested on October 5, 2026, after a tip-off led to an operation by the command’s officers.

In a statement released to the press on Wednesday, the command’s Public Relations Officer, Ayoola Michael Shola, said the officers found several items during the operation and a follow-up search.

The seized items included vandalized transformer cables, cable peels, a Bajaj motorcycle, a saw, a knife, and a pair of electrical gloves, among other things relevant to the case.

The statement explained that early investigations show the suspects are linked to the destruction of electricity infrastructure in Tanke-Iledu community.

It also noted that efforts are ongoing to catch other people thought to be involved in these criminal acts.

Commandant Abbas Ndah Mohammed, the State Commandant, praised the officers for their alertness, professionalism, and commitment to protecting vital national infrastructure in the state.

Mohammed said he is determined to make sure that Kwara State does not become a safe place for vandals, criminals, or those sabotaging the economy.

He promised residents that the command will continue to carry out intelligence-led operations to find, arrest, and investigate those who threaten public safety and critical infrastructure.

The commandant also warned anyone involved in vandalizing public properties to stop, emphasizing that the NSCDC is dedicated to protecting government assets and ensuring the well-being of the people in Kwara State.

The statement concluded by saying the suspects would be taken to court once investigations are complete and a clear case is established, following the law.
