Kwara PDP Names Former Aspirant Gambari as Campaign Head for 2027 Election

The Kwara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has appointed Omar Gambari, a former governorship aspirant, as the Director-General of its campaign for the 2027 governorship election.

This decision was made at a meeting with party leaders and the PDP governorship candidate, Bolakale Kawu. The meeting was led by the state chairman, Isa Adamu.

A statement from the party’s Publicity Secretary, Olusegun Adewara, was released in Ilorin on Wednesday. It said, “Gambari was chosen because of his professional experience, organisational capacity, knowledge of the political terrain and engagement with youths across the state.”

The statement also noted, “Prince Omar Bolaji Gambari brings to this responsibility a combination of professional experience, youthful energy, organisational exposure and an understanding of contemporary political communication.”

Gambari has a background in international law, finance, entrepreneurship, real estate, agriculture, and community development. These skills will help him lead a modern campaign with people from different backgrounds and generations.

Gambari was one of the hopefuls for the PDP’s 2027 governorship ticket. The party later decided on a consensus arrangement that led to Kawu being named as the candidate.

During this process, Gambari and other aspirants agreed to support whoever emerged as the candidate. He stepped down in support of Kawu.

After Kawu became the candidate, Gambari stayed active in the party’s political events. This involvement was a key reason for his appointment to lead the campaign for the 2027 election.

The party said, “Our party believes his experience in the private sector, international legal practice, entrepreneurship and community engagement, combined with his familiarity with the political environment in Kwara, informed the decision to entrust him with the coordination of the party’s 2027 campaign organisation.”

The new campaign structure will manage activities across different levels and constituencies in the state as they prepare for the 2027 governorship election.

“This appointment marks another stage in the party’s preparations for the 2027 governorship election, with the campaign structure expected to provide coordination across the party’s various levels and constituencies,” the statement added.
