Lagos Welcomes Dazzle FC After Winning at Dana Cup in Denmark

The Lagos State Government has welcomed Dazzle Football Club after the team did well at the 2026 Dana Cup in Denmark. They won gold in the U-12 category and silver in the U-14 category.

The team was received on Tuesday at the Lagos State Sports Commission’s office in Teslim Balogun Stadium. Mobolaji Ogunlende, the Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, and Lekan Fatodu, the Director-General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, were there to greet them.

Dazzle FC made a strong debut at the Dana Cup in Hjørring, Denmark. The U-12 team won its category while the U-14 team finished as runners-up. Toheeb Ojerinde from the U-14 team was named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament.

Fatodu congratulated the players and coaches. He praised the team for their performance on the world stage and said their success brought pride to Lagos and Nigeria.

While welcoming the team, Fatodu said, "The ecosystem, actually championed by the President, is such that when you do well, a grateful state and nation receive you. This is the manifestation of that word this morning."

He also mentioned that the team’s success could encourage other young people to follow their dreams. "Without statistical information, your group is just a drop in the ocean when we talk of over 22 million population in Lagos and 200 million in Nigeria. Imagine when the drop creates a significant ripple. That is what you have done, and that ripple is what is going to inspire other people," Fatodu said.

The U-12 team had a fantastic tournament. They won all nine of their matches, scoring 56 goals and allowing just six.

In the semi-final, they beat Brazil’s RS Sports 2-1. Then in the final, they won against Mexico’s IFAC 1-0 after extra time. Akinremi Abdullahi scored the winning goal.

The U-14 team also made it to the final but lost 5-3 on penalties to Palestine’s Rawahel after the game ended in a draw.

Even with the loss, Ojerinde was named the Most Valuable Player of the U-14 category. He kept three clean sheets in five matches.

Fatodu assured everyone that the commission is committed to supporting young athletes, helping them grow and inspiring the next generation of champions.
