The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has responded to 1,409 road crashes and rescued 670 victims in the last nine months.
The agency shared this news in a statement on Sunday. They reaffirmed their commitment to better emergency response and road safety in Lagos State.
The statement was signed by LASTMA’s Director of Public Affairs, Adebayo Taofiq. It quoted the General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, stressing the importance of public awareness, quick reporting of incidents, and following traffic rules.
Bakare-Oki said working together with other road safety and emergency response groups is key to lowering accidents and improving safety.
He called on drivers, commercial transport workers, delivery riders, and pedestrians to be careful, obey traffic rules, and report crashes or other incidents that need help.
The general manager urged road users to reach LASTMA through their toll-free number, 3367, whenever an accident happens.
He also mentioned that road safety is a shared responsibility and needs everyone’s commitment.
The statement pointed out that road crashes can lead to deaths, serious injuries, financial losses, and lasting emotional pain for families involved.
It also highlighted that following traffic rules, checking vehicles regularly, and driving responsibly are important for lowering the chances and effects of road accidents.
LASTMA thanked other emergency response teams for their support, including the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Lagos State Ambulance Service, State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit, and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service.
The agency noted that saving 670 accident victims shows the humanitarian side of their work. They praised their staff for their professionalism and hard work in providing emergency help in dangerous and unpredictable situations.
