The Jos Metropolitan Development Board has told politicians in Plateau State not to paste campaign posters on public properties as the 2027 general elections approach.
Hart Bankat, the General Manager of the board, made this known in a statement released in Jos on Saturday.
Bankat explained that this order follows Executive Order 003 of 2024. This order regulates buildings and traffic in the state.
He warned that those who break this rule will face the law, including a fine of N500,000 as stated in the executive order.
The general manager pointed out that the notice is part of the board’s job to manage physical development, outdoor advertising, and how public spaces are used.
“By this order, political posters, banners and other campaign materials shall not be pasted, mounted or displayed on public buildings, bridges, road infrastructure and other authorised locations.
“This is to preserve the aesthetics of the city of Jos, protect public infrastructure and ensure public safety during campaigns ahead of the forthcoming general elections,” he said.
Bankat urged political parties, candidates, campaign organisations and advertising firms to get approval before putting up any outdoor campaign materials.
