Super Eagles player Ademola Lookman helped Atletico Madrid come back from behind to beat Olympique Marseille 2-1 in a pre-season friendly on Friday, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.
Marseille scored first with Igor Paixão finding the net in the 22nd minute. Atletico Madrid equalized before halftime when Rodrigo Mendoza scored in the 39th minute, thanks to an assist from Lookman.
Carlos Martín then scored the winning goal in the 78th minute to secure the comeback for Atletico.
Lookman’s contribution to the win comes just a day after Atletico announced that he will wear the number 11 shirt for the 2026/27 season. He wore the number 22 jersey during his first six months at the club after moving from Atalanta in January.
The number 11 shirt was last worn by Argentine midfielder Thiago Almada, who transferred to River Plate this summer. Lookman is familiar with the number, as he also wore it while playing in Bergamo.
The 28-year-old had a strong half-season at Atletico after joining, scoring nine goals and providing four assists in 24 matches across all competitions for the LaLiga team.
