Julián Álvarez has said sorry to Atlético Madrid fans for what he said during the 2026 World Cup.
After scoring the winning goal in Atlético’s 1-0 win against Deportivo La Coruña on Saturday, the Argentine forward spoke to Movistar. He said,
“I wanted to apologise to our fans for my words during the World Cup. They were a mistake. Both the way I said them and the timing. Especially because I understand why the fans were angry. I would have been angry too if I were a fan.”
Álvarez also mentioned that the fans had been “very generous” even with the drama. He thanked his teammates for their support.
He said he is feeling better both physically and on the pitch. He is ready to fight for everything with the club.
The comments that caused the fuss happened when Álvarez said that playing for Barcelona was a dream. This did not sit well with Atlético fans during the summer transfer window.
