Lyon from Ligue 1 managed to beat Crystal Palace 3-2 in the Europa League on Thursday. Meanwhile, Sunderland came from behind to snatch a late win against Torreense, a team from Portugal's second division.

Bayer Leverkusen climbed to the top of the table with a big 4-0 victory. AC Milan also won their match with the same score.

Crystal Palace manager Pierre Sage faced a tough night at his former club. The UEFA Conference League champions suffered their fourth loss of the season across all competitions.

Lyon took the lead early in the game. Corentin Tolisso reacted quickly to a loose ball at a corner, putting the home team ahead within the first 10 minutes.

Just before halftime, Ernest Nuamah doubled Lyon's lead. He scored from Keito Nakamura’s cross after a smooth passing move.

In the second half, Palace cut the deficit with a smart set-piece routine that allowed Yeremy Pino to score.

Lyon responded soon after. Pavel Sulc flicked the ball in from close range, pushing the score to 3-1 for Paulo Fonseca's team with just under 15 minutes left.

Palace's Daichi Kamada scored another goal for his team with nine minutes remaining. Despite this, Lyon held on to secure their second win in a row to start the league phase.

At Estadio Municipal de Leiria, Torreense, the Portuguese Cup winners, looked like they might hold Sunderland to a draw. But Noah Sadiki scored a last-minute goal to give Sunderland a 2-1 victory.

Torreense, sitting 15th in Portugal’s second division, shocked Sunderland with a stunning goal in the 37th minute. Centre-back Volnei Feltes powered a shot from 30 yards, leaving Sunderland's goalkeeper Robin Roefs unable to react.

Sunderland manager Regis Le Bris made some key changes, bringing on Granit Xhaka and Enzo Le Fee just before the hour mark. This move paid off, as Jules Ahoka scored shortly after to equalize.

After a lengthy VAR check ruled out a late penalty for Sunderland, Torreense thought they had secured a famous draw. But Noah Sadiki found the net in stoppage time to claim the win for Sunderland.
