Seyi Makinde, the presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), has promised to set up a four-year transitional Government of National Unity (GNU) if he is elected President in 2027.

He said that his government would focus on inclusivity and stop the concentration of power in one part of Nigeria.

Mr. Makinde, who is currently the governor of Oyo State, made this promise on Saturday during the APM North-east 2027 Town Hall Meeting in Yola, Adamawa State.

He mentioned that this proposed GNU, which he promised would not last more than four years, would focus on national unity and tackle issues about political representation and the exclusion of some regions in the country.

“I stand before you today to tell you that the government you will put in place from May 29, 2027, will be a transitional government of national unity. Our government will not last beyond four years. And it will be an all-inclusive government,” he stated.

The APM candidate explained that the plan was aimed at addressing worries, especially in Northern Nigeria, about ensuring political power was not held by one region alone to the detriment of others.

Mr. Makinde also promised that his government would seek solutions to Nigeria’s security and economic problems through public consultation, transparency, and what he called sincere leadership.

He said that the party has delayed the release of its manifesto to give its presidential candidate time to listen to the people and understand their worries before finalizing policy proposals.

“Our manifesto is on the way. We have deliberately delayed its release because we wanted to hear from you at this level,” he added.

Mr. Makinde said his future administration would steer clear of what he termed the politics of lies and deceit. He emphasized that it would listen to the people and consider solutions from all parts of the country.

“2027 will mark the end of the politics of lies and deceit. It is a time when we will all come together to establish a reset agenda and tell Nigerians the whole truth,” he said.
