A man and his son have lost their lives, while seven other people were injured in a road accident in Plateau State.
The crash involved a bus, a commercial tricycle, and a saloon car in Sabon Barki, which is in the Jos South Local Government Area.
The accident happened around 4:20 p.m. on Sunday along Bukuru Express Road. The bus reportedly ran into the tricycle and the saloon car, and this caused the tricycle to catch fire.
The victims were said to be coming back from church when the accident took place.
Yakubu Longsan, the Public Relations Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Plateau State, said two people died at the scene after being trapped in the burning tricycle.
Mr Longsan said overspeeding and reckless driving caused the crash. He added that the injured were taken to Porter’s Orthopaedic Hospital in Jos for treatment.
He mentioned that the bus driver ran away after the crash, and efforts are ongoing to find him.
A witness named Kefas Gyang said he got to the scene shortly after the crash. He saw people trying to rescue those inside the burning tricycle.
He noted that the fire was so intense that it made it hard for bystanders to help those trapped inside.
Mr Gyang also said that he did not see the collision happen.
He shared that the deceased man's wife suffered a broken leg, while the couple's other child and the tricycle rider were among those taken to the hospital for treatment.
The FRSC has urged drivers to avoid overspeeding and reckless driving. They also advised passengers to speak up if they notice dangerous driving.
