The Sokoto State Police have arrested a man suspected of stealing livestock in Gidan Madi, Tangaza Local Government Area.

The suspect was caught at a market while holding a goat. The goat was later identified by its owner as one of the stolen animals from the area.

Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ahmed Rufai, confirmed the arrest during a phone interview on Thursday.

Rufai said the victim identified both the goat and the suspect as part of the group involved in the theft.

On September 15, the suspect and others allegedly went to Jurelku, a village in Gidan Madi, and stole the victim’s animals.

“The suspect was caught at the market with a goat. The owner recognized the goat and also pointed out the suspect and his partners who came to Jurelku to steal his animals.

“The suspect is now in custody and is providing us with useful information,” Rufai said.

The police spokesperson mentioned that the suspect’s arrest has given investigators important leads to find other members of the gang.

He added that the investigation is still ongoing.
