France captain and Real Madrid star, Kylian Mbappe, has ended his long partnership with Nike. He has signed a new deal with Swiss sportswear company On.

On announced the partnership on Friday. They described Mbappe’s signing as part of their entry into the football market.

The company also revealed that former France international and 1998 World Cup winner, Thierry Henry, is now their football director.

On plans to launch its first football boots next year. They did not share the financial details of their agreement with Mbappe.

Mbappe shared that he was excited about the partnership. He wants to create something fresh and use his experience to help develop the brand’s football products.

“From the beginning, what drew me to On was the opportunity to build something entirely new together that will help shape tomorrow’s game,” Mbappe said.

“I want to bring my experience and perspective into what we create, push what’s possible through innovation, and always stay true to the joy of football.

“We have a shared dream, and this is only the beginning.”

On was founded in 2010. They first made a name for themselves in running and tennis shoes before moving into football. Tennis legend Roger Federer is one of their shareholders. He also switched from Nike to this Zurich-based company towards the end of his playing career.

Mbappe’s move is a big loss for Nike. They have worked with him since 2006 and featured him in many of their football campaigns.

The 2018 World Cup winner is the tournament’s all-time leading scorer with 22 goals. He became one of Nike’s biggest football ambassadors after Cristiano Ronaldo.

Mbappe’s exit follows Spain international Lamine Yamal’s switch from Nike to Adidas in 2024.

Nike still has deals with several well-known footballers. These include Norway striker Erling Haaland and Brazil forward Vinicius Junior.
