Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Luka Modric are part of a group of 66 footballers who have played more than 1,000 career matches. This shows the amazing effort needed to stay competitive for so long.

Many players have short bursts of success, but hitting the 1,000-game mark needs years of hard work, fitness and commitment.

Planet Football reported on Saturday that this list includes famous goalkeepers, midfielders, defenders and forwards who have had long careers in club and international football.

Brazilian goalkeeper Fabio leads the list with 1,449 appearances. He started his professional career in 1997 and has spent his time in Brazilian football, with 955 games played for Cruzeiro alone.

Former England goalkeeper Peter Shilton comes in second with 1,387 appearances from 1966 to 1997. He played for several English clubs like Leicester City, Nottingham Forest, Southampton and Derby County.

Cristiano Ronaldo is third with 1,343 appearances, making him the top outfield player on the list. The Portuguese forward has played for clubs such as Manchester United, Real Madrid, Juventus and Al Nassr, while still adding to his total.

Messi is in sixth place with 1,215 appearances. The Argentine has played 778 matches for Barcelona, 75 for Paris Saint-Germain and 117 for Inter Miami, along with his games for Argentina.

Croatian midfielder Luka Modric is ninth with 1,178 appearances, which includes 597 games for Real Madrid and 160 for Tottenham Hotspur. His time with the Croatian national team has also helped boost his impressive total.

Other big names include Brazilian goalkeeper Rogério Ceni, who has 1,226 appearances, and former England goalkeeper Paul Bastock, who has over 1,297 appearances.

The list also features legendary players like Gianluigi Buffon, Roberto Carlos, Xavi, Iker Casillas, Ryan Giggs, Paolo Maldini and Frank Lampard.

Among those listed, Chilean forward Alexis Sanchez has hit 1,005 appearances across 11 clubs and his national team. Asa Hartford and Dannie Bulman have also crossed the 1,000-game mark.

These numbers show the incredible strength and steadiness needed to reach this milestone, with players from different times and football backgrounds included.
