Moffi set for medical with Hamburg

Super Eagles striker Terem Moffi will have his medical at Hamburger SV today, Saturday. The Bundesliga club is close to signing him after agreeing a transfer fee with OGC Nice.

Moffi, who led the Super Eagles at the 2026 Unity Cup, traveled to Hamburg on Friday for the medical. His transfer will be finalized once the medical check and paperwork are done.

French news outlet L’Équipe reported that Hamburg and Nice agreed on personal terms after several weeks of talks. This ends Moffi’s three-and-a-half-year stay at Nice, which he wanted to leave this summer.

Transfer reporter Florian Plettenberg said Hamburg settled on a fixed fee of €2 million for the 27-year-old. There is also a potential €500,000 in add-ons, making the total deal worth €2.5 million.

Moffi is expected to sign a contract with Hamburg until 2029. He will wear the number nine jersey once the transfer is confirmed.

The 27-year-old shone in Nigeria's summer friendlies, providing two assists in the victory over Zimbabwe. He also scored in two straight games against Jamaica and Poland.

Moffi joined Nice from Lorient in January 2023. He started on loan, but the move became permanent later. He finished his first full season as the club's top scorer with 11 goals in Ligue 1.

However, his time at Nice soured after he and some teammates faced violence from fans in November 2025 following a loss to Lorient.

He spent the second half of last season on loan at Porto, helping them win the league title. But Porto decided not to activate the €8 million option to buy him, leading to his return to Nice this summer.

In total, Moffi played 72 matches for Nice in all competitions, scoring 24 goals and providing five assists. He was also a target for Turkish Super Lig teams Samsunspor and Besiktas before focusing on the move to Germany.
