Six-time Bundesliga champions Hamburg are looking to sign Super Eagles striker Terem Moffi. This comes after the Nigerian player was left out by French club OGC Nice ahead of the new season, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.
German newspaper Hamburger Abendblatt reports that the newly promoted Bundesliga team sees Moffi as a potential attacking boost. The Nigerian is expected to make a decision about his future later this week.
The 27-year-old has been asked to train away from Nice’s first-team squad. He was also left out of the squad for a recent pre-season friendly against Juventus. This has led to more speculation that his time in France is coming to an end.
Moffi is in the last year of his contract with Nice. This makes him an appealing option for clubs looking for an experienced striker at a lower transfer fee.
Hamburg returned to the Bundesliga last season after spending years outside Germany’s top division. They are eager to strengthen their squad with proven attacking players as they prepare for their comeback.
Moffi joined Nice permanently in 2023 after an initial loan from Lorient. He has scored 24 goals and provided five assists in 72 appearances for Les Aiglons in all competitions.
Injuries affected parts of his time in France, but Moffi is still highly valued for his speed, strength, and finishing skills. These qualities made him one of Ligue 1’s most reliable forwards.
Before joining Nice, he had successful periods with Lorient and the Belgian club Kortrijk. He started his European career in Lithuania with Kauno Žalgiris and Riteriai.
The Nigerian international has 23 caps for his country. He also spent the second half of last season on loan at Portuguese giants Porto, where he helped the club win the Primeira Liga title before going back to Nice.
