The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has accepted a request from the family of late singer Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, known as Mohbad. They want a new and thorough look into the details surrounding his death.
The family shared this through their lawyer, Oladayo Ogungbe, in a statement dated September 29, 2026. They explained that the police re-investigation is still going on, even after a recent court case was thrown out by the Federal High Court in Abuja.
Ogungbe mentioned that the Aloba family sent the petition to the IGP on April 14, 2026. The police received it at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, on May 7.
The petition pointed out issues with the earlier investigation and asked for a detailed forensic review of what happened to Mohbad.
The IGP approved the petition and forwarded it to the Lagos State Police Command to take action.
The family later learned that the petition was passed to officers from the Special Enquiry Bureau for further investigation, as stated in the document.
"The family’s representative has been invited and has met with the new team of investigators working on the case.
The family has kept in touch with the investigators and is involved in the new investigation process," the lawyer stated.
This update came after the Federal High Court in Abuja dismissed Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/363/2026 on September 25, 2026.
Ogungbe emphasized that the court case was different from the family’s petition to the police. It was not filed by the Aloba family or with their permission.
"The Aloba Family does not want people to mix up the court case dismissal with the separate police investigation that started due to the Family’s petition to the Inspector-General of Police," the statement said.
The family insisted that the court’s decision to dismiss the case does not end the police investigation that was started based on their petition.
They said they will keep cooperating with the investigators by providing important information, documents, witnesses, and other materials that could help the case.
The family also called on the police to carry out the investigation with care, independence, and professionalism while looking into all relevant people and situations.
The lawyers assured that the family is not looking to influence the investigation’s outcome or create a "trial by media." They just want a credible, clear, and open process to find out what happened to Mohbad.
"The re-investigation is ongoing. The Aloba Family is fully involved. The search for justice for Mohbad continues," the statement ended.
