Super Eagles winger Moses Simon has called reaching 100 appearances for Nigeria a “great privilege” and a dream come true. He hit this milestone during the Super Eagles’ 2-1 win over Madagascar in Uyo on Friday evening.
Simon came off the bench in the second half, replacing former Sevilla striker Akor Adams at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium. He quickly showed his speed and skill, taking on Madagascar's defense and creating chances for Nigeria as they won their first game in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying round.
At the post-match press conference, Simon spoke about how important it was for him to reach this mark. He thanked the coaches who have believed in him and given him chances to play for Nigeria throughout his career.
“Thanks to the coach for the opportunity. Thanks to every coach that gave me the opportunity,” Simon told reporters.
The 31-year-old shared that he never thought he would reach 100 appearances when he started playing for the national team. This makes the achievement even more special for him.
“Of course, this gives me joy and it is a great privilege to play for the Super Eagles,” he added.
But for Simon, this milestone is not the end of his journey with the national team. He promised to keep giving his best whenever he gets called up again.
“It is a dream come true. I never believed I would play 100 games but I believe one thing, whenever I am called up, I will be there to give one hundred per cent,” Simon concluded.
With his appearance against Madagascar, Simon joins an exclusive group of Nigerian footballers who have reached 100 caps for the Super Eagles.
He is now alongside Joseph Yobo, Vincent Enyeama, Ahmed Musa, and Alex Iwobi, all of whom have also made at least 100 appearances for Nigeria.
After celebrating this landmark moment in Uyo, Simon will shift his focus back to the Super Eagles’ qualifying matches. Nigeria will face Guinea-Bissau in their next Group L game on 29 September.
