Mourinho explains why Madrid missed out on Rodri

Real Madrid coach José Mourinho has shared why the club could not sign Rodri. This happened even after they made a big offer for the Manchester City midfielder.

Rodri was one of Madrid’s top targets this summer. But their efforts fell apart before he signed with Barcelona.

Mourinho said that Rodri’s own doubts played a big part in the failed deal.

The Portuguese manager mentioned he spoke with Rodri during the talks. He confirmed that Madrid made a solid offer to get the Spain international.

As noted by Fabrizio Romano on X on Wednesday, Mourinho said, “I spoke to him a couple of times and Real Madrid made him a very good offer.”

He went on to say that Madrid had a good relationship with Manchester City. They reached out to Rodri directly before starting talks with the English team.

But Rodri was not completely sure about the move.

Mourinho explained that this uncertainty led Madrid to rethink their own position.

“Rodri had doubts, he hesitated and Rodri’s doubts created doubts for me,” Mourinho said.

“He is an extraordinary player and was very respectful with us, nothing negative to say,” Mourinho added.
