Real Madrid manager José Mourinho said on Saturday that his team will not make a specific plan to stop Barcelona's Lamine Yamal in Sunday’s El Clásico at the Spotify Camp Nou.
As reported by Fabrizio Romano on X, Mourinho told reporters in his pre-match press conference, “There’s no specific plan anti-Lamine.”
“He’s a great player, great players deserve respect… but changing your plans, your structures is another. The players are all good, same as ours.”
Mourinho stressed that while he respects Yamal’s talent, Real Madrid will not change their game plan or team setup for just one player.
He also pointed out that Barcelona has a strong team overall, with players matching the quality of his own squad.
These comments come ahead of an important La Liga match. Real Madrid is six points behind Barcelona and will miss the suspended Vinicius Junior.
Barcelona recently lost 4-2 to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League. The French team used close marking on Yamal during that match.
Mourinho’s position is different from the more reactive strategies that some teams use against top attackers.
He made it clear that Real Madrid will stick to their own style instead of changing their game for the young Barcelona star.
El Clásico is set for Sunday evening at the Camp Nou.
